Dear Mr. Ambassador:

I am writing to express my deep concern that, despite the Jordanian Government's public commitment to end human trafficking and despite certain advances toward ending the gross violation of the human rights of the tens of thousands of foreign guest workers employed in Jordan's garment export factories, serious abuses continue—especially with regard to the firing and forcible deportation of workers asking for their basic legal rights.  Such forcible deportations have occurred in at least a half dozen factories producing garments for duty-free access to the U.S. market.

The Jordanian Government must move immediately to return these workers to Jordan, with guarantees of no further reprisals and payment of all back wages due to the fact they were fired illegally.  These workers should also be given the option to relocate to better factories in Jordan.

If these deported workers are not quickly returned, the Jordanian Government, working with the factory owners and their U.S. clients, must adequately compensate these workers, so that they are made whole again.

I anxiously await your government's response to end this crisis.

Thank you.
