QIZ Workers Relocated Following Investigations

The Ministry of Labor on Tuesday oversaw the transfer of 623 Bangladeshi laborers working int eh Qualified Industrial Zones (QIZ) from companies implicated in workers' rights violations, the Jordan News Agency7, Petra, reported. Minister of Labor Bassem Salem said the transfer process, which was also supervised by the embassy of Bangladesh, involved relocating the workers in question to other QIZ companies proved compliant with laws after a series of inspections carried out by ministry teams. The inspection campaign was intensified after an international report highlighted human rights violations in some factories in QIZs. Following the report by the US National Labor Committee, the Labor Ministry developed a detailed action plant to address the problem that included procedures to be taken in cooperation with other stakeholders such as the International Labor Organization, and the ministries of health and interior, among others.
